The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G joins the list of Samsung mid-range offerings, with a design and hardware combination that isn’t too dissimilar to previous Samsung offerings. Furthermore, the Galaxy M42 5G is the first 5G smartphone in Samsung’s Galaxy M series.

Display and Design
Starting with the design of the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G, we have a setup that shares DNA with previous Samsung smartphones, with honourable mentions going to the Samsung Galaxy M62 and the Samsung Galaxy M32.
This device’s back cover is distinguished by various shades of a single colour. This is not the first time Samsung has used a gradient design on her smartphone.
A square camera module with four cameras, an LED flash, and the Samsung branding, which pretty much indicates it’s a Samsung smartphone, coexists with the gradient design, resulting in a setup similar to that seen on the Galaxy M62.

This device comes in two colour options: Prism Dot Black and Prism Dot Gray. The fact that we only have two colour options means that enthusiasts who do not like any of the colours may be in a pickle.
Upfront is a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a drop notch. This display’s highlights include a resolution of 720 x 1600, which is one of the lowest we’ve seen on a super AMOLED display. Furthermore, we have a density of about 266 PPI.
Cameras
On the Samsung Galaxy M62, we have a set of cameras that are adequate. They’re pretty standard for smartphones in this category.
On the back, there is a quad-camera setup that includes a 48MP primary camera with an aperture of f/1.8, a 5MP depth camera with an aperture of f/2.4, a 5MP macro camera with an aperture of f/2.4, and an 8MP ultrawide camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and a field of view of 123. This camera’s video recording resolution is limited to 4k @ 30fps.
The front camera setup consists of a single 20MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture. On this setup, video recording is limited to 1080p @ 30fps.
Hardware and software
The Samsung Galaxy M62’s performance is led by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G processor, which is classified as a mid-range processor.
The Adreno 619 GPU is also on board the performance train, as is a non-removable 5000mAh Li-Po battery paired with 15W charging, which is, in my opinion, insufficient for the battery. RAM and storage configurations include 128GB 6GB RAM and 128GB 8GB RAM.
On the software side, we have the One UI 3.1 user interface running on the Android 11 operating system.
connectivity
The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G comes equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, NFC, WiFi, and Bluetooth 5.0.
Because this is a 5G phone, internet connectivity is limited to 5G, so enthusiasts can use 5G connectivity for downloads, streaming, and uploads.
Price and Availability of the Samsung Galaxy M42 5G
The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G costs approximately $299 for the 6GB/128GB variant, which translates to approximately 113,919 Naira in Nigeria, 31,918 KSH in Kenya, and 1,726 GHC in Ghana.
The Samsung Galaxy M42 5G was announced on April 28th, 2021, and went on sale on May 5th, 2021.
